Mission Statement: ETC aims to assist organisations to establish, or improve upon existing HIV and AIDS management systems by providing guidance and services to reduce the incidence (number of new infections) of HIV within their organization and effectively manage and mitigate the current HIV/AIDS epidemic within the organization. (Prevalence).
Vision: Our vision is to assist organisations to effectively manage the risk that HIV represents by: Reducing the incidence of HIV by providing researched best practice prevention and destigmatisation programmes. Reducing the impact upon those who are already infected by introducing Voluntary Counselling and Testing or PICT (Provider Initiated Counselling & Testing) and Wellness and Disease Management interventions to improve quality of life and prolong life, and thus productivity and economic sustainability (this offering EXCLUDES clinical medicine and treatment services). Providing HIV/AIDS management system guidelines, mentoring and coaching of managers, peer educators, counsellors and occupational health nurses. By providing project management of the HIV Quality Management System and evaluation or auditing of current programmes. Providing implementation of SANS 16001 consultancy services Providing gap audits, internal audits or external audits against SANS 16001 (Please note we cannot provide both consultancy and audit services for the same client as this is seen to be a conflict of interests we can provide one or the other).
ETC is by nature and size an SMME (Micro enterprise) Number of staff in full time employment 6 All other staff is sub-contracted for specific projects for the duration of the project most of the sub-contracted staff are regularly sub-contracted and most have been trained by ETC. The sub-contractors are either private individuals/consultants or have their own micro enterprises. ETC thus promotes the support of small businesses especially BEE small businesses. Many of our sub contractors are also volunteers in their communities and rely upon the ETC contracts as their financial support to carry out their volunteer HIV related work. We seek to source and train new sub contractors on an ongoing basis as our business increases throughout the country and beyond our borders. Our current annual turnover is less than R5 million and as such are classed as an Exempted Micro-Enterprise (EMEs) thus giving us a level four BBBEE status. This status gives us procurement recognition of 100%. ETC accredited training materials are utilized in training projects that require accredited training.

We contract preferred service providers per project & have the following service providers available as resources: Project managers/coordinators/administrators Psychologists Social workers Trained lay counsellors Nurses Trainers/facilitators, assessors and moderators Auditors Researchers/statisticians A legal team Actuarial scientists PLHWAs People living positively with HIV or AIDS Pantech supplies our HIV rapid test kits both screening and confirmatory We work hand in hand with the Wellness and Disease Management organisation that is affiliated to the organisations medical aid provider OR Will assist the organisation with disease management by providing referral to HIV disease management services or chronic illness management or full medical aid through a number of Disease Management Organisations. Our teams many and varied skills allow the company to operate successfully within the HIV and AIDS management, training, care and treatment domains, across all cultures, languages and levels of literacy.
The company is built on the principles of best practice benchmarking in HIV and AIDS interventions and behaviour modification for risk reduction.
We combine research applications in education, prevention programmes, information and awareness programmes, behaviour modification for risk reduction, HIV testing, HIV and related counselling and positive living with HIV and the related opportunistic illnesses.
All educational interventions are based on researched best practice for achievement of outcomes.
Accreditation ETC has full accreditation with the Health and Welfare SETA Accreditation number: HW592PA05000128 The following unit standards have full approval: US 114491; 114478; 13915; 114729 The following 3 unit standards are awaiting accreditation from the Health Professionals Council of SA. What we do: We provide a comprehensive range of HIV & AIDS interventions to the business sector, government sector, NGOs and Community Based Organisations.
This comprehensive range of interventions includes but is not limited to: Consultation Risk and situational analysis of HIV related management systems Development or updating HIV Policy and HIV committee HIV and AIDS Education and training of all types and durations Voluntary Counselling and Testing (HIV) we also offer other testing for employee wellness days. HIV and AIDS related Mentorship and coaching of Managers, Peer Educators, Counsellors and Nurses Auditing of HIV workplace programmes against the newly developed SANS 16001. Available from October 2007 once accreditation from SAATCA and SANAS has been approved.
To assist organisations in effective risk management of the HIV epidemic, ETC offers the following interventions: A HIV/AIDS management systems analysis or gap analysis (situational analysis to determine the companys profile, needs, gaps, vulnerability and susceptibility, past and present HIV interventions and current HIV related employee benefits). This analysis is compared with the existing company policy and a report is submitted outlining recommendations for targeted interventions specific to the needs of your particular business environment. Development and training of an HIV/AIDS committee. Development of an HIVAIDS Policy according to the Dept. of Labour Code of Good Practice and ILO including the intended procedures, programme, budget and timeline and Technical Assistance Guidelines (TAG) Development of a business place strategic plan to manage HIV/ AIDS. Development of the project plan with time lines, budget, allocated responsibility, targets, objectives and success indicators. KABP Surveys. Actuarial Economic Impact Surveys. Prevalence Surveys. Management seminars. (Senior and middle management). HIV/AIDS Peer Educator courses o Peer Educator training programme includes a 36 week workplace curricula for the Peer educators to follow after their training. Monthly mentorship and coaching and a tracking and evaluation process. This course is available in English, Zulu and Sotho. It is currently being translated into Xhosa. o Updates for existing Peer Educators HIV/AIDS Counsellor courses o 10 day unaccredited course or 14 day accredited course (designed for nurses, doctors, social workers, EAP service providers, HR managers, personnel officers, lay counsellors and psychologists). We also offer a lay counselor course which is available in Zulu. o Peer Counsellor training courses. o Upgrade training for Peer educators requiring counselling skills
Mentorship and coaching of Managers, Peer Educators, Peer Counsellors, Advanced Counsellors and Nurses. Wellness and disease management training for all categories of nurses. VCT or PICT provision of counselors to do on site pre-test counselling, HIV testing and post test counselling. (We can provide counsellors for most SA language requirements). Rapid technology is utilized. A report is issued to management regarding the uptake numbers and HIV positive and negative numbers within the company utilizing the VCT statistics. This report maintains a strict confidentiality protocol. The following demographics are only reported upon if they do not identify any specific employees, thus breaching the employees right to privacy and confidentiality. Gender, race, age, grade/band. Programme feedback and management consultation. Project management for the entire project Implementation of HIV QMS (Quality Management Systems) based on the newly developed SANS 16001:2007.
Company History Education, Training and Counselling was created as an HIV consultancy in February 2001 by the current Managing Director Linzi Smith. ETC has provided various HIV related interventions to ± 200 different companies over the past 5 years. We have ongoing long term work with 14 of these organizations.
